This is Gregor, the lead character (protagonist, that is) of Kafka's novella "The Metamorphosis." For those that don't know, the book starts off with Gregor waking up and realizing he's a bug.

He's eyeing me with his looking eye! Thats really cool. The way his legs protrude from his body is interesting.

Thank you! Yeah, for some reason I always think of bugs legs coming from inside their exoskeleton... I know the legs are more like a part of their exoskeleton, but... well, whatever. Artistic license, I suppose. If Kafka can write about a guy waking up as a bug, why can't I draw a bug with legs portruding through holes in the exoskeleton?
